Fortrel® EcoSpun™ is made of from 100% recycled plastic bottles and has set the standard by which all other environmentally-friendly fibers are judged. Because it is clearly pro-environment in its raw material source and in its manufacturing process.
Bottles collected for recycling are refined and purified, broken down and processed into spun fibre strands. These strands are then knitted and woven into fabrics. Fortrel Ecospun mixes well with other fibres, for instance blended with cotton it produces a fabric with the feel of a normal 50/50 polyester cotton.
Fortrel Ecospun passes with flying colours tests for shrinkage, durability and colour fastness. When used on its own or with reclaimed/recycled cotton this makes for a truly environment friendly product.
Developed in the U.S by the company Wellmann Inc.
Environmental results indicated that Fortrel Ecospun uses 60 times less plastic, four times less carbon dioxide and six times less sulfur against the life span of virgin polyester.
